Throne Room - Oil on canvas

Throne Room This is inspired by the verse, Matthew 10:16. This is how I would picture the throne room of a heart - clean, and prepared for the King. Jesus is represented in purple, the color of royalty, and seated on the throne. The woman is clothed in silver, the color of redemption. She isn’t meant to represent a specific person, just a daughter of God. Her positioning, with her foot forward, means that she is ready to go out into the world at any moment. As she goes out on missions for the King, she has to be careful and crafty, (represented by the snake), as well as innocent (dove).

Book of Life Jesus is the Book of Life. This is inspired by the verse in Isaiah (Isaiah 49:16) that says that our names are written on the palms of His hands.

Homeward This was inspired by a song by Sheila Walsh. The lambs are coming homeward toward Bethlehem.

One Life I don’t know who said this quote, but this painting was inspired by it. Our lives are so fleeting - a vapor (James 4:14), and we have a limited time to do things that matter for eternity.

Heavenly I: Squirrel Napping - Oil on canvas 2021

Heavenly I: Squirrel Napping This is the first in a series of paintings, in which I imagine how things would’ve been without the Fall. I don’t know if there will be animals in Heaven. I hope so - at least, in the new earth. I don’t know if we’ll need to sleep either, but if God will allow it, I would like to nap and snuggle with squirrels on roses in the grass.

Voice Women are required to submit to their husbands. (Ephesians 5:22). There are times in marriage when obeying that command is especially difficult for women. This drawing illustrates the fear of losing your voice and rights. There is often a fear of the husband abusing his power within this command. It can take a great deal of trust to quietly obey when you don’t agree. This is, of course, only referring to times when obedience to a husband is not in sin. God never wants wives to submit to sin.

Deciding Life - ink on paper 2022

Deciding Life With this illustration, I was attempting to show the emotional weight of having to decide when to stop treating a loved one and allow them to die. I’ve had to do this twice in my life, but with the most recent one, I felt I had to make the decision alone. Ultimately, we don’t really have that kind of power over life and death - only God does. And, for those who are saved, it isn’t the end. Still, those situations can seem so heavy and lonely. The sign represents the choices, which are often unclear and confusing. The hour glass shows the time constraints and pressures added by health care providers and family members. The grave stone is obvious. The crosses in the back shows that there is hope even in the midst of these situations.

Shelter - Oil on canvas 2022

Shelter The Shepherd and the lamb represent Jesus and me. I want so much to touch His feet. This was inspired by the women in the Bible who were able to touch, wash, and anoint His precious feet. I made the lamb much smaller than Jesus to show the complete coverage of His protection. The lamb rests on to top of His foot and is able to wrap around the side of His foot in complete comfort and protection. The lamb is also led by the Shepherd’s staff.
